- Definitions. The "CD-ROM" refers to all the information
and software provided on the Mouse Atlas Project CD-ROM disk. This is
comprised of:
- "html pages"
- "2D images"(.jpg) and "movie sequences" (.mpg)
- "3D reconstructions" (.wlz) which include the grey-level
voxel models of the histology and the delineated anatomical components.
- "software" (all binaries under the "bin" directory
and Java applet code)
- "anatomical nomenclature" as a directory hierarchy
Each licensee is addressed as "you" or "Licensee". A "work
using the CD-ROM" means any work within the Licensee's organization
and a "publication using the CD-ROM" means any published material
either in print (e.g. scientific journals, books, educational material,
newspapers) or electronically (e.g. as html pages published from a WWW
server). "Full and proper reference" means that if any material
from the CD-ROM is used within a publication the reader can see on the
same page that the material has been copied from the CD-ROM and that a
text caption or footnote provides the acknowledgement.
- Copyright holders. The Medical Research Council, UK and the
University of Edinburgh, UK, are copyright holders of the html pages,
2D images, movie sequences, 3D reconstructions, and anatomical nomenclature.
The Medical Research Council, UK is the copyright holder of the
software. The copyright holders reserve all rights except those expressly
granted to the Licensee.
- Use of the CD-ROM. The Licensee shall use the CD-ROM solely
for non-profit academic research purposes within the Licensee's organization.
The Licensee may copy all or part of the CD-ROM onto the hard disk of
a computer so that other CD-ROMs can be used at the same time. Licensee
will not permit the use of the CD-ROM by more than one person at a time.
If the CD-ROM is sold the new owner is subject to the same terms and
conditions and must notify the MRC of the purchase.
- Use of the software. The software is provided to allow
you to view the 2D and 3D images. This software can be copied and reused
for viewing other 2D and 3D images within Licensee's organization.
- Work using the CD-ROM. The use of the CD-ROM for work within
the Licensee's academic organisation for non-profit research, for example
the analysis of experimental data, is encouraged.
- Publication using the CD-ROM. The html, 2D images, movie sequences
and anatomical nomenclature can be used within publications of the Licensee's
organisation provided full and proper reference to the material is made,
and that there is no-profit from such publication. For example images
may be used and the text quoted in both paper and electronic publications
If the scientific results of this work derive from an analysis of the
data on the CD-ROM directly (as distinct from interpreting new data),
then the licensee agrees to contact the Medical Research Council and
University of Edinburgh via one or more of the contacts above before
publication to obtain permission to use that data in that way.
- Acknowledgement of use. Licensee agrees to acknowledge the
use of the CD-ROM in any document which has input from work using the
CD-ROM, including but not limited to published research. The licensee
agrees to notify the Medical Research Council and University of Edinburgh
via one or more of the contacts above and to supply a copy of the publication,
with appropriate modification made for protection of confidential or
proprietary information.
