Spontaneous mutants show a delayed rise and a prolonged deficit of pituitary growth hormone resulting in delayed pubertal growth, hypothyroidism, and an enlarged adenohypophysis with aberrant chromophobic cells. Homozygous null mice show a modest but transient pubertal growth lag and male sterility.
