Notes:
All three images are of the same embryo. Figure A is a lateral view with anterior to the left; Figure B is a posterior view with the tip of the egg-cylinder down; Figure C is a top view with the anterior of the embryo to the left. Only the data from image A has been spatially mapped in this EMAGE entry. Image annotation: al - allantois; ec - ectoderm; m - mesoderm; p - primitive streak; ve - visceral endoderm.

StructureLevelPatternNotes
primitive endoderm
detected detected
regionalExpression was detected in the nuclei of ecto- and mesodermal cells and cells of the visceral endoderm in the area of the primitive streak with the highest intensity being found in the ectodermal cells.
primitive streak
detected detected
regionalThe Cdx1 expression domain was restricted to the immediate region of the primitive streak, with a slight lateral extension within the ectoderm (see Fig 4C)
embryo ectoderm
detected detected
Expression was detected in the nuclei of ecto- and mesodermal cells and cells of the visceral endoderm in the area of the primitive streak with the highest intensity being found in the ectodermal cells.
embryo mesoderm
detected detected
regionalExpression was detected in the nuclei of ecto- and mesodermal cells and cells of the visceral endoderm in the area of the primitive streak with the highest intensity being found in the ectodermal cells.

Notes:The Cdx1 antibody used in this study by Meyer & Gruss, 1993 [PMID:7900985] was raised against peptides encoding the amino- and carboxy termini of Cdx-1. The peptides were made by FMOC-synthesis on a Milligen-Biosearch-9050 peptide synthesizer. NH2 terminus: MYVGYVLDKDSPVYPGPARPC COOH terminus: CPTNAGLLGTPSPVPVKEEFLP The amino terminus was predicted from the investigated 5' sequences of Cdx-1. For this peptide, it was necessary to place a cysteine residue at the COOH-end in order to facilitate the coupling reaction.
