[PMID:8898216] was detected using the following method: The Kit gene was disrupted by replacement of exon 1 (codons 7-22) and 200 bp of intron 1 with a lacZ-neo cassette via homologous recombination (see Fig 1 therein). No residual protein product or mRNA was detected in homozygous mutant animals.
