StructureLevelPatternNotes
trunk somite
detected detected
regionalSomites posterior to the forelimb level were only weakly labeled, suggesting that Rdh10 induction declines after formation of approximately the first 10 somite pairs. With Respect to differentiation of somitic mesoderm, transverse sections at trunk levels show that only the dorsal edge of the dermomyotome, together with cells surrounding the dorsal spinal cord, were labeled.
future hindbrain
weak weak
regionalAt the mid-hindbrain boundary area. Expressed also in some other regions of the hindbrain. At posterior hindbrain levels, only the dorsal superficial mesenchyme was positive
future midbrain
weak weak
regionalAt the mid-hindbrain boundary area.
future spinal cord
detected detected
regionalExpressed in some cells in the posterior spinal cord.
optic vesicle
detected detected
regionalExpressed dorsally.
otocyst
detected detected
regionalRestricted to cells along the hindbrain surface.
forelimb bud
detected detected
regionalLabeled cells were seen along the entire proximal margin of the buds. Additionally, Rdh10-expressing cells extended along both the anterior and posterior margins of the growing buds, and labeling was most intense in the posterior area known as the zone of polarizing activity.
mesenchyme derived from somatopleure
strong strong
mesenchyme derived from splanchnopleure
strong strong
mesonephros
strong strong
regionalExpression was specific to the mesonephric ducts within the intermediate mesoderm.
rest of foregut mesenchyme
detected detected
regionalHighest labeling was in the mesenchyme surrounding the foregut and dorsal aortae.
dorsal aorta
detected detected
regionalHigh labeling was in the mesenchyme surrounding the dorsal aortae, dorsally to the atrial chambers of the developing heart.
foregut
strong strong
regionalDiscrete areas of foregut endoderm also expressed Rdh10, including at the level of the second branchial arch.
midgut
detected detected
At more posterior levels, section analysis clearly showed endoderm-specific expression at the prospective stomach level.
